Cross Country (Nordic) Downhill Ski Clinic for Adults

The Tay Valley Ski Club is pleased to offer a “nordic downhill” cross country ski afternoon and clinic at Calabogie Peaks Resort in the afternoon of Saturday December 6th or Saturday, December 13th, 2015, snow conditions & weather permitting. There will be a $17.00 beginner hill lift pass required and ski leashes or two shoe laces will be required to fasten each of your skis to your ankle to comply with the Calabogie Resort ski hill insurance requirements. Nancy Gaudreau and Rick Sauder will provide coaching and technique demonstrations. Nancy is a former college level XC racer and high school level coach in the U.S. Rick is a former loppet racer and was a nordic ski patroller in British Columbia for many years. Both have many years of nordic ski training, racing and experience.

Pre-registration is required. Participants must be 18 years of age or older and be competent intermediate level or higher skills on classic skis. The clinic will be limited to 16 participants on a first come first served basis. The clinic will run from 12:30 until the lifts close. Calabogie Peaks Resort is about 45 minutes west of Perth in the Lanark Highlands. We may be able to set up some carpooling from Perth if there is interest. We will meet at the Peth Pool parking lot at 11:30, or you may meet us at the resort at 12:30 if you choose.

To Register contact: sauderr@sympatico.ca

This afternoon ski clinic will focus on instruction on Nordic downhill techniques and lots of practice time for intermediate level XC skiers and will cover the following topics:

Snowplow Turns, Stem Christie Turns, Step Turns, Telemark Turns and for the keeners, Parallel Turns.

The afternoon is meant to provide lots of downhill practice on easy terrain to help build confidence and competence when skiing down hills on XC skis.

Calabogie Peaks has agreed to allow us to practice on their bunny hill which is serviced with a carpet lift. The resort is a full service ski area with lunch room, cafeteria, restaurant and pub. The apres ski may just be as much fun as the clinic. We hope to see you there.
